Like many people whose work has moved away during the pandemic, Jamie and Jerry Rea have taken advantage of the work-from-home lifestyle and made the whole country their home! In this episode of Dream Big, Live Small, the mobile family takes us on a tour of their Airstream trailer.
“We became full-time VRs from a simple spontaneous conversation, since Jerry can work remotely, [and] we kind of had the travel bug,” says Jamie. The couple bought an Airstream trailer when they were just a family of two and have since grown into a family of four!
Life in the caravan also allows the family to see parts of the country they would never have explored otherwise. “We decided to move into an RV because we thought it was the right way for us to explore the United States, which we really hadn’t done much,” Jerry shares.
The family’s Airstream trailer is equipped with an automatic exterior sunshade for hot days, and the roof is equipped with 600 watts of solar panels, allowing the family to easily disconnect from the grid.
Inside the trailer is a large sofa that doubles as Jerry and Jamie’s bed, with storage above and below. Jerry admits that all his clothes fit in only two small baskets! “It’s one of the big adjustments you have to make when you go from a ‘normal’ living situation to a very small living space,” he says of his modest clothing collection.
In the kitchen area there is a large dining table on which the four members of the family can sit comfortably during meals. Bonus: the dining table faces two large windows that often overlook totally unique landscapes, creating a unique ambiance at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
In fact, evidence of the family’s travel history hangs on the wall next to the dining room table in the form of a status tracker that uses craft brewery bottle caps to mark the dates. states in which they have been. “I think we’re up to 32 or 33 different bottle caps right now,” Jerry shares.
The kitchen also has a fridge, freezer, pantry, three-burner stove and microwave/convection oven that allows the family to cook if they wish. !
At the rear of the trailer is the children’s bedroom and play area, which can accommodate a small daybed, crib and toys. The layout provides parents and children with separate sleeping areas while providing plenty of space for the little ones to play.
No matter how big the Rea family’s trailer is, it’s hard to argue with the country-sized backyard it gives them access to!
